tattoo body marking

BODY MARKING

Perhaps the most typographical body-markings are the ranchers’ brands burned into the flanks of animals as marks of ownership. Some look like modern-day logos. Perhaps brands were what Stefan Sagmeister had in mind when he took a razor-blade to his body, literally cutting words into his flesh, in a kind of temporary designer-self-mutilation for a poster advertising an AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) lecture of 1999. Forget about the pain-free body painting of the Brownjohn poster (and countless other examples)—cutting himself was a commentary on the absurdity of indelibly inking the body with tattoos. And yet it served its purpose. It was not only a startling way to communicate a message, but also an unforgettable lettering composition.

Whether indelibly inscribed or temporarily tattooed on skin, body type’s long tradition of use gives it continued resonance.

This tattoo that my friend ended up getting was because i drew and designed the tattoo just as a design in my own time and she ended up liking it but it had furthermeaning as her grandmother and her mum was both exiting her life. so i decided i wanted to change it a little to two roses and then me and my friend got her leg tattooed with the design.

The tattoo spoken about is the tattoo shown above.

It related a lot into one of spencer's lectures when he was on about artists and designers who had marked them selves for there work that carried a message. In this case i had taken the idea of that and as the design related to a particular friend i suggested her getting it as a tattoo and marking it into her body for life and she then decided to go get the tattoo done.
Obviously as it was my friend and the design was meaningful to her that she wanted the design to be tattooed by a professional in that field so she got it done and marked her body with my design for life.
Although it doesnt seem as drastic as grabbing a razor blade and marking your self she still went out and got her body marked for life with a design i had drawn out and then drew on to her body before the tattoo artist inked it into her skin.
