Character Development

In this session I was introduced to production techniques and workflows as they relate to character design. The character I create will be being used on a packaging that I will also design and eventually produce prototypes for. The focal point is on the character design as it relates to brand & pack design.

In the workshop I had to…
1.              Create a character that will be suitable for a younger market, and can relate to the cereal brand.
2.              I then had to create a brand which revolves around my character and cereal idea.
3.              Once my character and brand had been created I then needed to find and create a layout for my cereal packaging.

Below are examples of my thought process and refinement ideas for my front cereal box cover.

Overall I enjoyed this session, as I like to draw and sketch, as that’s how I first found myself to be creative. However these days I prefer to be creating most things on the computer. These drawings we were creating did not need to be neat however my personality wanted to make them neat as possible so it was difficult overcoming this OCD need. I feel that by practising my drawings through doodling and being messy with them I will gradually become better and not really caring to much on how neat the first few drafts of a sketch will turn out. I have decided to further my "Monkey Munch" cereal box.
